About me

Hi, I am Romana Feitsch, a self-taught Viennese artist and professional media designer. In my detailed animal drawings, I try to explore the multifaceted relationship between humans and nature. My works are intended to encourage the appreciation of nature and the protection of biodiversity. I mainly use graphite as my tool of choice, although I also like to experiment with other media.

Biography

Although I have always been passionate about animals and art, I did not initially pursue either of these passions professionally. My original path led me into science. I completed a Master’s degree in biochemistry and worked in a laboratory for a few years with the aim of doing a doctorate.

But I never really felt at home in the lab. So I decided to follow my passion for animals. Which led to another degree in Human-Animal Interactions. At the same time, I spent every spare minute drawing. However, it was a while before I found the courage to turn it into a profession. I initially found myself in scientific publishing and science communication, working with illustrators who showed me that there was indeed a professional application for my talent.

The years in the lab taught me to be meticulous and precise – qualities that can also be found in my artistic work. Besides, I don’t just like drawing animals, I also know a bit about them. And I appreciate them for what they are. That’s why I try to avoid trivializing animals in my work.
