My name is Romana, I live in Vienna and I draw stuff and love animals. Yap, you guessed it, I am really bad at introducing myself. However, if you are looking for an animal portrait or some piece of nature inspired illustration, I am your gal.

Now you are scratching your head while looking for some credentials. My illustration career did not happen in one big straight forward stride. Although I have been drawing for all of my life, I actually started out as a scientist. At least, that was the plan. I have earned Master Degrees in both Biochemistry and Human-Animal Interaction and while I love to study and learn new stuff and keep my nose in books and get to the bottom of things and get absorbed in a subject and forget the world around me, I hated the actual work. The lab work that is. During all these years I turned to drawing as a way to keep my sanity and to release stress. I attended drawing courses and kept my pencils sharp. Yet, while my own apartment got overflown with pictures of animals of all sorts, it did not occur to me that illustration could be the real deal. Not until the pandemic hit. Somewhere between the collective craziness of the last few years and while working as a publishing editor for science books (and thereby sneaking a peek at the illustration business), it dawned on me that I had something to offer here. It was time to peel off the sciency outer layer of me and get real. So, here I am offering animal art straight from the heart in exchange for coin.

I put all my passion and love into these works and it fills me with joy that they become gifts for your loved ones or treasured adornments on the walls of your office or living room. While I sell some finished pieces (animal portraits, posters and print products), I am also open for commissions.
